About Maymona:
My rented apartment in Ramallah had a spacious balcony and all its rooms adorned with tall windows draped in heavy curtains. Some of the windows faced a busy intersection while others looked out on a quiet alley. From my kitchen window I would often spy on two old friends drinking coffee and playing backgammon, under the shade of an olive tree. One day it was especially hot, so I decided to open the windows in the spare room. I lifted the dusty curtain and there she was, outside on a windowsill – a dove nesting two tiny eggs. I don’t know how long she was there before I discovered her, but she looked very serene and at home. Me and M. decided to give her a name: Maymona, which means lucky and blessed.
